New Year's Resolutions for 2010

Last year I posted some New Year's Resolutions. So I thought it would be a good idea to quickly assess how well I did with them as well as make some new ones for 2010.

GeoCities Closes - A Sad Day for the Internet

We all saw this coming. After years of providing free web hosting services, Yahoo is finally closing the door on GeoCities.

Long gone are those nostalgic moments of doing a Google search only to find a geocities page (complete with an ugly tiled background, and animated gifs) that hasn't been updated in 10 years.

Before it went down, I managed to snap a quick screen shot of what was left of the original Memories of Hyrule page.

Status Update

I figured I'd just take a minute to update everyone on what's been going on with my current projects.

The Default Case Dilemma

I have to confess something. In my last post, I talked a lot about good coding practices. Well, it seems I have a tendency to break one of my own rules. I was looking through some of my Memories of Hyrule code and I realized that I have a tendency to leave the default cases, in my switch statements, blank.

New Year's Resolutions

I usually don't bother making New Year's resolutions. But I recently wrote down some things that I would like to do in 2009, so I thought I'd post them on here as well.

  • Update This Site More Regularly. I often think of things to post on this site, but I procrastinate. Then, by the time I get around to writing, the topic is no longer relevant. I really need to be more disciplined when it comes to updating this site.

  • Get Some iPhone Applications Published on the App Store. As you probably already know, I've been messing around with iPhone development lately. In 2009, I'm planning to have multiple iPhone applications available on the App Store (even if they're just small ones).

  • Launch Project X. Few people even know what this is, and I intend to keep it that way until launch. But trust me, it's going to be awesome.

  • Become Much More Proficient with Adobe Flex and ColdFusion. I love these technologies and the direction that they're going. Now I just need to make sure that I stay on top of things.

  • Contribute to an Open Source Project. I've been wanting to do this for a while, I'm not sure which project I want to contribute to yet. Right now, I'm thinking about either Drupal or ClanLib, but I haven't decided.

  • Make Significant Progress on Memories of Hyrule. Ugh, this thing... it haunts me. Alright, look - I would love to say that I want it finished in 2009, but I absolutely refuse to put any kind of intended release date on this thing (even a vague one). It will be done when it's done (and perfect). End of story. I will however, at least say that I plan to get a lot of work done on it in 2009.

  • Become an Internet Millionaire. Yup.  :)

I Drank the Apple Kool-Aid

Apple Kool-AidI actually did it. Only three blog posts later and I've splurged on the new MacBook Pro. I actually got it about a week ago, but I didn't post anything on here because I've been too busy playing with my new toy. :)

All I really have to say is that this thing is BY FAR the best computer I've ever owned! From the look and feel of the hardware, to Mac OS X Leopard itself, everything just looks and feels like it's been engineered to perfection.

I hate to say it, but I've become an instant fanboy.
