My Thoughts on Real-Time Search

There's been a lot of talk lately about Real-Time Search. During the past few months, Google has added a real-time area to it's search results, Facebook and FriendFeed now retrieve real-time results, and new search engines devoted to real-time, such as Collecta, have sprung up.

Google FAIL!

Updated on August 4, 2009 by Registered CommenterErrornix

Wow, I never would have thought that I would write a title like THAT on this site.  But low and behold, I did experience a brief Google FAIL.

I was checking my Gmail from within my iGoogle page, and for some reason the search bar/header appeared both at the top and where my inbox should have been. At first, I thought maybe this was some kind of refresh problem, but both search boxes were fully-functional. Weird. I'm not sure what happened, but a simple refresh fixed it - end of fail.

Note: In case you're wondering, I'm using the PHP Coder iGoogle theme.

YouTube Black Out

YouTube BlackoutSo there's this group of YouTube users who are trying to organize a "YouTube Blackout" from Dec. 19 through Dec. 21. They are posting videos and comments telling everyone not to use YouTube at all during that time frame because they are mad about YouTube's new policy changes.

This is hilarious!

Digg's Comment System

I just wanted to spew out a quick little rant here.

Digg's comment system: Sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it. For those that don't know, Digg's comment system allows users to digg and bury comments (much like the stories posted on the site). So basically what happens is someone posts a comment, and if you like what they said you can digg it (+1 vote) or bury it (-1 vote). If the comment gets buried too much, then it will be hidden.

Here's the thing. When I'm actively digging or burying comments, I love it. When I'm just casually reading through a thread of comments, I hate it. On websites that don't have this feature, I sometimes feel the urge to digg or bury a comment and not being able to annoys me. But I also love not being distracted by it when I'm simply reading a thread.

So sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it. But ultimately, I find myself disliking it more than liking it.

Introducing Google Chrome

I'm a little bit late for the party on this one. That's okay though, I'm never on time for anything.

So as you probably already know, Google has launched a browser, and I've got to be honest, I'm not impressed. It's not a bad browser by any means (it's certainly better than Internet Explorer), but this is Google we're talking about! Certainly they can do better than this!

Here's my breakdown of Chrome.
